HUNGERFORD BROOK FALLS - HIGHGATE, VERMONT

The powerful plunges and cascades of Hungerford Falls.

Description: Hungerford Brook Falls is a heavyweight, in every way possible.  The brook begins to enter the gorge with s short series of rapids, and splits around a rock to form two paths.  Then the brook begins the main fall into the gorge, with over 50' of plunges and cascades leading to a main pool.  The gorge walls are extremely steep, from years of erosion.  The brook then takes a sharp left-hand turn and continues to have many waterfalls as it winds for another couple hundred feet of elevation loss.  There are plunges, cascades, and slides as the brook turns sharp right in another hundred feet, before finally leveling off again.  This is a major series of waterfalls, that is an outstanding treat for any nature lover.  The falls are their most spectacular in spring, as they lose a lot of force in the summer.  The falls are on private property, so please respect the wishes of landowners, and ask permission if you would like to visit.
