VERMONT WATERFALLS
THE MILL FALLS - GEORGIA, VERMONT |
|
The middle block waterfall in the series, with a beautiful forest in the backdrop as the river bends.
Description: A very well known mill site, featuring three distinct waterfall segments, Mill Falls is a very scenic location. The upper falls are a very wide block, especially when the spring run off creates a massive seething white mass. Just beside the upper falls are the remnants of the old mill, that served the area until the turn of the 19th century. The river continues to the middle segment, which is a wide block fall, before a turn in the river. The final segment is a great block waterfall, that was also the site of a second mill at the site, an old lumber mill. These falls are quite seasonal, from roaring in the early spring, to nearly dry in the summer. This is a great historic site, with nice waterfalls and historic remnants. Please respect the wishes of the landowners and ask permission if you would like to view the falls.
The upper segment of Mill Falls, a nice series of plunges over the bedrock, just below the bridge.
The third, and final, segment of Mill Falls, showing the cascades to the bottom pool.
The scenery around the upper fall segment, showing the bridge, and the old mill remnants to the right.
A view from the bridge over the upper falls in extremely high snowmelt flow. What a difference!
